Modern Warfare 4 Beta begins August 21 with Early Access, multiplayer content and an exclusive campaign mission.

The wait is finally over. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 enters its Early Access Beta today, August 21, following the Call of Duty: NEXT showcase. Activision has revealed more details about the Beta, including its Weekend One content, multiplayer maps and modes, progression, rewards and an unexpected addition: an exclusive single-player campaign mission. The Early Access Beta starts at 11:00 AM PT on August 21 and runs through August 25. Meanwhile, players without Early Access can join the Open Beta on August 28, making the next two weeks especially important for Call of Duty fans.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Schedule

Activision has split the Beta into two weekends. Weekend One runs from August 21 at 11:00 AM PT until August 25 at 10:00 AM PT and gives Early Access players their first opportunity to play. Then, Weekend Two runs from August 28 at 10:00 AM PT until September 1 at 10:00 AM PT, opening access to all eligible players.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Start Time in India

For Indian players, the Early Access Beta starts at approximately 11:30 PM IST on August 21. Call of Duty: NEXT takes place earlier at approximately 9:30 PM IST, giving Indian fans a chance to watch the showcase before jumping into the Beta later that night. The Open Beta begins at approximately 10:30 PM IST on August 28.

Therefore, if you’re planning to play tonight, make sure you finish the download and check your system before the servers open.

Call of Duty: NEXT Happens Today

Before players enter the Beta, Activision will host Call of Duty: NEXT at 9:00 AM PT on August 21. The showcase will feature gameplay, developer insights, reveals and new information about Modern Warfare 4. The Early Access Beta will follow at 11:00 AM PT.

For fans, that makes August 21 one of the biggest Modern Warfare 4 days so far. First, players can watch the latest gameplay and announcements. Then, eligible players can experience the game themselves just two hours later.

The Beta Has a Surprise: An Exclusive Campaign Mission

One of the biggest differences between this Beta and previous Call of Duty tests is the inclusion of an exclusive single-player campaign mission called “Entrenched.” The mission takes place during the game’s fictional conflict on the Korean Peninsula and gives Beta players an early look at the single-player experience. That move gives Activision another way to attract players who normally skip multiplayer testing. Instead of spending the entire Beta competing online, players can also experience part of the campaign.

Multiplayer Maps and Modes Are Coming

Weekend One will feature a selection of Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer content, including maps, weapons and modes. Activision wants players to test the game’s core multiplayer systems while providing feedback that can help the developers improve the final experience. Additionally, Call of Duty: NEXT will reveal more information about the available content, giving players a clearer picture of what they can expect when the servers open.

Warzone Arrives During Weekend Two

The second Beta weekend expands the experience beyond traditional multiplayer. Warzone content will arrive during the August 28–September 1 Open Beta, including the new Zodiac Resurgence map. Ground War content will also feature during the second weekend. As a result, players who want to experience the broader Modern Warfare 4 ecosystem will have another reason to return for Weekend Two.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta PC Requirements

PC players don’t need an extremely powerful system to meet the minimum requirements. Activision lists a Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-8400, 12GB of RAM and GPUs such as the Radeon RX 470, GeForce GTX 970/1060 or Intel Arc A580 as minimum-class hardware. The game also requires an SSD. For recommended settings, Activision lists a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700, 16GB of RAM and GPUs such as the Radeon RX 6700 XT, RTX 3060 Ti or Intel Arc B580.

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot Are Required

PC players should pay particular attention to the game’s security requirements. Modern Warfare 4 requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for the Beta. Activision introduced these requirements as part of its PC security measures, so players with older or custom-built systems should check their BIOS settings before launch. In other words, even if your hardware meets the recommended specifications, disabled TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot could prevent you from accessing the Beta.

Beta Preload Is Available

Activision has opened the Early Access Beta preload for eligible players. Players can find the Beta through the relevant Xbox, PlayStation, Steam or Battle.net storefront. Xbox PC players will receive the main portion of their Beta download from 7:00 AM PT on August 21, following the initial preload period. Therefore, players who plan to jump in tonight should download the Beta as early as possible rather than waiting until the servers go live.

How to Access the Early Access Beta

Players who digitally pre-ordered Modern Warfare 4 through supported platforms such as the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Steam or Battle.net automatically receive Early Access. Players who purchased through participating retailers may need to redeem their Beta code through Activision’s official system. However, players don’t need a pre-order for the Open Beta during Weekend Two, although availability can vary by platform and territory.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Rewards

The Beta also gives players a chance to earn rewards. Activision says players can carry eligible Beta rewards and progression into the full Modern Warfare 4 experience. That gives players another reason to spend time with the Beta rather than treating it as a short technical test.

Which Platforms Can Play?

Modern Warfare 4 Beta supports PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC. Nintendo Switch 2 players can join during the Open Beta in Weekend Two.

Why This Beta Is Different

Modern Warfare 4’s Beta offers considerably more than a traditional multiplayer test. Players can try multiplayer maps, modes and weapons, experience the exclusive Entrenched campaign mission and explore Warzone content during Weekend Two. At the same time, Activision will use player feedback to refine the game before launch.
In short, the Beta gives players three major reasons to participate: multiplayer, campaign content and Warzone.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Schedule at a Glance

Here’s the updated schedule you need to keep handy:

DateEvent
August 21Call of Duty: NEXT
August 21Early Access Beta begins
August 25Weekend One ends
August 28Open Beta begins
August 28Warzone/Zodiac content arrives
September 1Open Beta ends

Activision’s official schedule uses Pacific Time, so players should convert the times to their local region before planning their sessions.

Is Your PC Ready for Modern Warfare 4?

If your gaming PC has something around an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or Arc B580, 16GB of RAM and an SSD, your system falls within Activision’s recommended hardware range. Older cards such as the GTX 1060 and RX 470 can meet the minimum specification, although actual performance will depend on resolution, graphics settings and optimization. More importantly, check TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot before launch. These security requirements can prevent a compatible PC from entering the Beta if you haven’t enabled them.

GizmoAlert Verdict: Modern Warfare 4 Has a Lot to Prove

The Modern Warfare 4 Beta is finally here, and Activision has packed it with more content than a standard multiplayer preview. Players can test multiplayer content, experience the exclusive Entrenched campaign mission and explore Warzone content when Weekend Two begins. For PC gamers, the hardware requirements remain relatively reasonable. However, 12GB of RAM, an SSD, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot remain important requirements to check before jumping into the Beta. Ultimately, the bigger question is whether Infinity Ward can turn all this content into a Call of Duty experience that keeps players hooked after the initial Beta excitement fades.

For now, though, there’s only one thing left to do:

Download the Beta, grab your loadout and see what Modern Warfare 4 actually feels like. 🎮
